On the Z4, you do not intently "lock" the trunk, it is, by default, locked : there is no button to open the trunk, you have to either press the remote button, press the cabin switch or insert the key in the lock and turn it. AFAIK the manual roof has a lighter headliner so it's not very well insulated and thus the automatic rood was a "must have". It's an E85 BTW.
